Each spring the Illinois Grade School Music Teachers Association hosts a music contest for students in grades 4-8. Due to contest rules, most schools require that the student be a member of the school band or chorus. While this contest is considered a “school function” (they sign up at school and the school is responsible for giving kids time slots), 88 Keys will help the kids select and prepare a song for contest.
Who can attend: Students in Grades 4-8
What: Students learn and memorize a song that they will play for a judge. Students do not compete against each other. They play their piece for points and each student receives a first, second or third place rating depending on the score they earn.
When: Depending on the school your child attends, contest is between the last Saturday in February and the second Saturday of March.
